Drain cleaning cable Ø 8mm, double wound, with claw & crank

This 8mm drain cleaning cable is a particularly sturdy version for clearing pipes from 50mm upwards. Inside the cable sits a counter-wound core – a second cable around which the outer coil is wound. That gives it considerably more stability than single-wound cables of, say, 9mm diameter as typically sold in DIY stores, and allows more force to be transferred when turning the crank.

At the front end of the cable is a permanently fitted claw, which breaks up blockages caused by kitchen waste, toilet paper, grease and also leaves and sludge. The cable is fed into the pipe until it reaches the blockage and then driven by hand using the wooden crank. Light pressure is enough to loosen the blockage.

The greater stability does mean the cable passes bends less easily than simpler versions. Never force it: always use light pressure while turning it clockwise. If the cable catches on the way back out, do the same and never pull hard – turn it anticlockwise while drawing gently. The cable will free itself and come out of the pipe. Sometimes a little back and forth is needed.

The cable is made of quality spring steel wire according to EN 10270-1 and is galvanized. It is available in 5m, 7.5m and 10m lengths. The claw cannot be exchanged for another tool.
